As of August 21, 2026, multiple active wildfires are burning across Washington, prompting evacuations and affecting communities across the state.

The Ptarmigan Fire is burning in Okanogan County, Washington. The fire is active in the Pasayten Wilderness near the Pasayten Airstrip and the Middle Fork Pasayten River drainage, north of the Methow Valley (1).

The Sinlahekin Fire is burning northwest of Sinlahekin Campground near Tonasket in Okanogan County. The fire has spread toward Palmer Mountain, Rattlesnake Peak, South Pine Creek, and areas west of the Okanogan River (2).

The Little Giant Fire is burning across Chelan and Okanogan counties. It extends through remote terrain around the Entiat River, Chiwawa River, Glacier Peak Wilderness, and Lake Chelan (3).

The Modrite Fire is burning across Ferry and Stevens counties near Inchelium. The fire remains west of Lake Roosevelt and south of Bridge Creek Road (4).

The Autumn Lane Fire burned across Spokane and Stevens counties. Affected areas included Suncrest, Swenson Road, Barney Coker Canyon, and Indian Painted Rocks (5).

The Old Trails Fire burned in Spokane County. The fire affected areas around Nine Mile Road, West Francis Avenue, Five Mile, and neighborhoods northwest of Spokane (6).

The Fairview Fire burned near Mead in Spokane County. It began near North Fairview Road and East Piper Road and burned through brush and grass, threatening nearby homes, power lines, and timber (7).

The Little Giant Fire has burned approximately 139,486.7 acres and is 12% contained.

The Modrite Fire has burned 57,595 acres and is 98% contained.

The Autumn Lane Fire has burned 5,764 acres and is 100% contained.

The Old Trails Fire has burned 3,175.9 acres and is 100% contained.

The Fairview Fire has burned 992.5 acres and is 100% contained.

Are there any evacuation orders or alerts in place?

Evacuation orders and warnings are in effect around most of the wildfires, particularly near Lake Chelan, Tonasket, Inchelium, Mead, and the Spokane area.

  • Ptarmigan Fire: Harts Pass Road and the Pacific Crest Trail near the Pasayten Wilderness remain partially closed.
  • Sinlahekin Fire: Level 3 evacuation orders cover areas west of the Okanogan River north toward Oroville. Level 2 evacuation warnings are in effect in Tonasket and nearby areas.
  • Little Giant Fire: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 notices cover parts of the Lake Chelan south shore and the Manson side of the lake.
