What is the name and location of the wildfire?

As of September 14, 2026, a major wildfire is burning on Brac, in Croatia. The island is the country’s largest Adriatic island. The fire broke out on September 10 near the village of Ložišće and spread rapidly under strong bora winds (1). It has since expanded toward the island’s southern coast and the Blaca desert area, affecting nearly 14% of Brac’s total area.

What is the current containment status of the wildfire?

As of September 14, 2026, the fire remains active and has burned more than 5,600 hectares. A total of 220 firefighters, 69 fire vehicles, and four Canadair water-bombing aircraft have been deployed. Crews worked through the night to prevent the flames from reaching homes and settlements (2).

The national firefighting command reported significant improvement by Monday morning following an extremely difficult night, with firefighters successfully protecting the town of Milna. However, satellite imagery showed that the fire continued to spread toward the southern coast.

Nearly 700 people have been evacuated from areas threatened by the Brac Island wildfire. Around 230 people were evacuated by sea near Milna, using vessels from the harbour master's office, maritime police, and private boats (3).

Authorities issued warnings to residents and tourists in Milna and surrounding settlements as the fire spread rapidly overnight. Two people suffered minor injuries during evacuation, an elderly woman who fell from a boat and a young man who inhaled smoke (4).
