As of October 11, 2024, the Elk Fire is burning in the Bighorn National Forest in northern Wyoming (1). The fire has spread across a vast area of forestland - over 75,000 acres - and is impacting communities in and around Sheridan County and threatening additional infrastructure, including the Little Bighorn Canyon.
A second Wyoming fire – the Pack Trail Fire – is burning nearby in the Bridger-Teton National Forest and has burned over 60,000 acres. It is around 60% contained (2)
