As of September 7, 2026, the Konitsa wildfire is burning in the mountainous Trapezitsa area near Konitsa in Epirus, northwestern Greece.

The fire began on August 31 and intensified following stronger flare-ups in recent days. Steep, difficult-to-access terrain and dense vegetation have complicated firefighting efforts.

Crews are working to prevent the fire from moving toward Konitsa or crossing the Aoos River into the Tymfi mountain area (1).

A 112 emergency message was sent to residents in the Konitsa area, urging them to remain alert and follow authorities' instructions because of the wildfire and heavy smoke.
