Bhiwadi MAP AIR QUALITY ANALYSIS AND STATISTICS

How much valuable information about air quality can be found on the air pollution map for Bhiwadi?

There is a lot of very interesting information on the air pollution map for Bhiwadi and it is very easy to access from the main city page. The air pollution map can be seen towards the top of this main page and clicking on it will open up a new page which is dedicated to air quality.

The first thing the viewer will notice is the intense colour of the map. This is a strong visual signal of the current air quality. Colours can range from pale green to dark maroon with the darker colours indicating worse air quality. These colours are standard across the whole IQAir website. There are also several coloured discs to be seen across the map surface. These show the locations of the ground-level air monitoring stations but not all of the stations to be seen are not under the city control. If they are overlapping, they will begin to separate when the map is slightly expanded. Each disc can be explored individually to find out more facts about that specific part of the city.

At the centre of each disc is a number. This is the United States Air Quality Index reading or US AQI for short. It is calculated by taking measurements of six of the most commonly found air pollutants in the city air. These are usually both sizes of Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and ozone. Once created, it is used as a metric when comparing air quality in different cities across the globe. It is actively endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

At the top of the main city page is a coloured banner which visually indicates the current air quality. It also displays the US AQI reading which was 164 at the start of January 2023 which indicates “Unhealthy” air. All six of the main pollutants were measured but it is usually PM2.5 that is used as a benchmark. This had a recorded level of 79.8 µg/m³ which is sixteen times higher than the target figure of 5 µg/m³ as recommended by the WHO.

Directly below the air pollution map for Bhiwadi is shown the number of contributors there are that collate all the data from the monitoring stations. Currently, there are two contributors who collate the data for two stations. One is a government body which is the Central Pollution Control Board and the other is corporate but remains anonymous.

How much more fascinating information about air pollution can be found on the air quality map for Bhiwadi?

There is so much more good information about air quality on the air pollution map for Bhiwadi, but the page needs to be viewed in full-screen mode in order for it all to be visible. There is an icon at the top of the screen which, when selected, will open the screen at maximum size.

Once viewed in this manner there will be four options visible on the left-hand side of the screen. They can all be individually disabled to see what effect they each have on the map.

The first option shows the locations of the ground-level air monitoring stations which are in and around the city and its environs. The second option shows the position of any wildfires that are burning in the area. At the time of writing, there were no fires burning out of control in the area. If there were, then option number four will be very useful because it shows the speed and direction of the prevailing winds and will give a good indication of where the smoke might blow.

Option number three is very dramatic because it changes the colour of the map to reflect the current state of the air. If the colours are too distracting, the option can be deactivated and the strong colours will revert to a more subtle shade.

There is more information on the right-hand side of the map where a table will be seen. This shows the ranking of the top seven most polluted cities around the world. The rest of the participating cities can be seen in the full ranking section when a new page will open with all of the cities listed.

Directly below the air pollution map for Bhiwadi can be seen a list of the stations according to their recorded levels of air pollution. Currently, the worst area of the city is around the Bhiwadi RSPCB station which is showing a US AQI reading of 159 which makes the air quality “Unhealthy”. The next table lists the stations in order of their popularity with the number of loyal followers they each have. Currently, the most popular is the station at RIICO Ind. Area III, Bhiwadi, Rajasthan – RSPCB with almost 900 followers.

Is the source of the polluted air shown on the air quality map for Bhiwadi?

The source of the polluted air is not directly shown on the air quality map for Bhiwadi, however, it is known that major sources of air pollution include vehicle emissions, coal-fired power plants, industrial waste, use of biomass for cooking and the construction sector. After the increase in pollution in the month of November 2021, the industry was also banned along with many big power plants. If air pollution continues like this, heart and lung diseases and many other serious diseases will increase and there will be three deaths due to air pollution every minute.

Particulate Matter is always quoted on the air pollution map for Bhiwadi, but where does it come from?

Particulate matter is made up of a combination of solid particles and liquid droplets suspended in the air. It also contains dust and soot as well as other dangerous chemicals. PM2.5 is an ultra-fine inhalable particle with a diameter of 2.5 micrometres, and it can penetrate deep into the lungs, causing respiratory diseases and illnesses. It also contains metal and heavy metal ions (cadmium, nickel, potassium, copper), organic and inorganic compounds, allergens, many microbial compounds, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

The increase in air temperature during the winter season and atmospheric changes in the Northern Hemisphere increase the amount of PM2.5 in the air. During the summer season, stagnant air masses, forest fires and secondary aerosol formation increase the PM2.5 concentration.

Meteorological factors such as wind speed and direction and weather conditions such as precipitation affect the processes of transport and the fate of PM in the environment.
