Phrae MAP AIR QUALITY ANALYSIS AND STATISTICS

How much information about air quality is concealed behind the air pollution map for Phrae?

There is a lot of very interesting information about the latest state of the air on the air pollution map for Phrae. It is accessed by selecting the air pollution map on the main page which will open a new page dedicated to all facts and figures about air pollution in Phrae.

When this new page first opens, the viewer will be met with a solid block of colour which is a visual indication of the current air quality. The colours get darker as the air quality worsens. Clean air is coloured pale green and it gets darker until the worse quality is deep purple or dark maroon. All these colours are standard across the whole IQAir website to avoid confusion.

There could be several coloured discs distributed across the page which represent the sites of the ground-level air monitoring stations. These stations collect and distribute the data regarding air quality. Each one can be individually selected which will then open up another page with lots of information about air quality specific to that area. This can be invaluable if travel is imminent.

At the centre of the disc is a number which is the United States Air Quality Index reading or US AQI for short. This figure is calculated by taking measurements of Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10), ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide which are the most prolific pollutants found in the city air. This whole system is encouraged by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and is used when comparing air quality in different areas across the globe.

Going back to the main city page, it can be seen in the coloured banner across the top of it that at the time of writing in March 2023, Phrae was experiencing a period of air quality described as being “Unhealthy” with a US AQI reading of 157. The most prolific pollutant was found to be PM2.5 with a recorded level of 68 µg/m³ (microns per cubic metre). At such a level, it is almost fourteen times higher than the suggested target of 5 µg/m³ as recommended by the WHO.

Immediately below the air pollution map for Phrae can be seen the number of contributors there are and the number of stations they operate. Currently, there is just one station which is operated by the Thailand Pollution Control Department which is a government department.

Can any more thought-provoking information about air quality be found on the air pollution map for Phrae?

There is a lot more valuable information about the current state of the air on the air pollution map for Phrae but the page needs to be viewed at full-size in order for this to happen. There is an icon at the top of the opening page which, once selected, will re-open the page at full size.

When viewed in full-screen mode there will be a list of four options appearing on the left-hand side of the screen. These can all be toggled on or off as desired to see the effects they each have on the map.

The first option will reveal the locations of all the ground-level air monitoring stations there are in the vicinity and each one can be explored further to see all the relevant information contained about that specific area of the city.

The next option shows the positions of any wildfires there are that are burning in the local area. Because there are several fire icons on the map, option number four needs to be explored because it shows the speed and direction of the prevailing winds and will give an indication of where the smoke and dust might blow.

The third option has the ability to change the background colour of the map to reflect the current air quality. When the air is clean, the colour would be pale green but the dark colours representing poor quality air can be very distracting. In this case, the option can be deactivated so the colour scheme will revert to a more subtle hue.

Even more facts and figures can be seen on the right-hand side of the page in the form of a table. This ranks the top seven most polluted cities in descending order. The remainder of the participating world cities can be found under the full-ranking section when a new page will open which contains all the relevant information about the cleanliness of other cities.

Immediately beneath the contributor’s category is a section that reveals the most polluted area of the city consistent with the readings from the city’s monitoring stations. At present, the dirtiest area of the city is in the vicinity of the Meteorology Centre which returned a US AQI reading of 171 or “Unhealthy” quality.

Below this is the list of the most popular station according to the number of followers they have. The Meteorology Centre is currently the most popular with over 36,000 loyal followers.
