Viet Tri MAP AIR QUALITY ANALYSIS AND STATISTICS

What information can be got from the air pollution map for Viet Tri?

The air pollution map for Viet Tri is assessed from the main city page. Once opened, the viewer will see the overall shading of the map to be a dark yellow or brownish colour which represents the overall air quality. The full meaning of the various colours is explained in the legend at the bottom of the screen. The cleanest air is shown by a pale green colour whilst the hazardous air is represented by a dark maroon colour.

Several coloured discs will also be seen on the map, but not necessarily directly over Viet Tri. The discs represent individual ground monitoring stations. Some discs might be overlapping each other, but when the map is expanded, the discs will begin to separate. These use the same colour system as seen in the legend and the discs also show a number. This is the US AQI reading which is a good indication regarding air quality. The higher the figure, the worse the pollution. This figure is derived from measurements of the six most prolific pollutants and is calculated from the results. It is encouraged by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and is used when comparing air quality in different parts of the world. If one of the discs is selected, a new page will open which is dedicated to that particular part of the city where the monitor is located.

If there are any fires burning in the vicinity of the city, they will appear on the map with their own symbols. When looking at the direction of the wind, it can be guessed where the smoke will blow and if it will affect the city or not.

Can any other information be seen on the air quality map for Viet Tri?

Once the air quality map for Viet Tri is opened, directly underneath the number of stations can be seen from where the information has come. There is also the category shown for what or who they represent. The station where the air quality data comes from in Viet Tri is Phú Thọ: đường Hùng Vương - Tp Việt Trì (KK), currently showing a very low US AQI reading of just 2. This station has over 2,000 followers who will be updated as soon as any major changes take place.

Looking back at the map itself, there are four options on the left-hand side of the screen. These show the position of the air monitors, the location of any fires, the direction of the wind, and the overall air quality. All of these options can be turned off if desired. The one that makes the most difference is the air quality section. If this is pressed then the colouration of the map disappears and appears as a map in a book would with blue rivers and green areas. The choice lies with the user.

On the other side of the screen is a table which shows the ranking of the world’s most polluted cities at that current time. This can be interesting when comparing it with your home city.

In order to obtain the maximum amount of good information, both the city page and the air pollution map for Viet Tri should be looked at at the same time.

During the second quarter of 2022, Viet Tri was experiencing a period of air quality classified as being “Unhealthy for sensitive groups” with a US AQI reading of 117. The main pollutant recorded was PM2.5 with a level of 42.2 µg/m³. This figure is quoted in microns per cubic metre. The World Health Organisation has set an ideal target figure of 5 µg/m³ so the concentration in Viet Tri is currently almost eight and a half times higher than recommended.

Is it possible to see where the worst areas of air pollution are on the air quality map for Viet Tri?

The only way to identify areas of high air pollution is to look at the numbers on the discs. As previously stated, the higher the number, the poorer the air quality. Underneath the map is the list of the stations that provided the data. These stations are listed in descending order so the ones with the worst air quality will be at the top of the list.

Can the source of air pollution be seen on the air pollution map for Viet Tri?

According to local authorities, the process of urbanization development is taking place in many places with construction activities, urban embellishment, road improvement activities, water drainage, construction activities, etc. building infrastructure for urban areas (North Viet Tri urban area, Minh Phuong urban area, Dong Gia resettlement area, Dong Lang Cau area, Hung Vuong street)... also increasing the increasing number of vehicles in and around the city contribute greatly to the surrounding air environment. Many of the vehicles are more than fifteen years old and therefore do not have modern technological advancements fitted which help to reduce harmful emissions. There are also many heavy-duty trucks which are powered by diesel which are major polluters themselves. And again, many such vehicles are really old and not in very good condition.

Currently, in many wards and communes, domestic waste is often burned in a natural way or by small capacity incinerators, the combustion temperature is not high enough to burn inorganically toxic chemicals, causing great harm to public health. In addition, recently during the agricultural harvest season, the air quality in some localities tends to decline, especially at night, one of the main reasons is the burning of straw. Stubble is common in the rice harvest period, and PM2.5 fine dust starts to increase from about 6 pm and reaches its maximum value from 9 pm to 1 am the next morning, exceeding the allowable standard value from 2 to 5 times.

PM2.5 appears frequently on the air quality map for Viet Tri, but what is it?

Two common measurements of particles found in urban air are PM2.5 and PM10. Simplified, these measurements give the mass of particles in the air that are less than 2.5 and 10 micrometres (µm) in diameter, respectively.

When these particles are inhaled, they can reach down into the respiratory tract and cause adverse health effects in both the short and long term.

The larger particles (PM10) are mainly formed via wear, for example from degradation of the road surface due to tyre and brake erosion. These particles also make up the largest mass of particles in the air. The smaller particles (PM2.5) come mainly from various combustion and industrial processes.
