The University of Patras was founded in 1964 and its creation contributed to the decentralization of university education in Greece. It is the third University of the country in terms of student potential, teaching, administrative and other staff, number of Departments and awarded degrees. The University is located in Patras (Campus in Rio & Campus in Koukouli), Messolonghi, Agrinio, Aigio, Pyrgos and Amaliada where 35 Departments operate covering almost all sciences.
