IQAir Voluntarily Complies with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive
Santa Fe Springs, California – IQAir North America has announced that they become the first air purifier manufacturer to voluntarily comply with introduction of Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive for the European Union. The RoHS Directive stands for “the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.” This Directive bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. IQAir believes strongly that RoHS compliance in manufacturing is the ethical and correct decision to move towards better manufacturing processes that will remove heavy metals from manufacturing.
Manufacturers switching to RoHS compliant components may experience minor temporary elevated failure rates in circuitry switches and speed setting components. IQAir has already instituted new circuitry testing and reliability monitoring procedures to ensure that their products continue to have the highest reliability in the industry while being fully RoHS compliant. Since their founding in 1963, IQAir has been at the forefront of the constant pursuit of perfection, in terms of air cleaner performance and product reliability and quality.
Frank Hammes, President of IQAir states, “There is an ancient Navajo Indian proverb that says ‘We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children.’ At IQAir, we believe it is the correct and ethical path to remove trace elements of heavy metals from manufacturing. This is good for people in developing nations where much of the electronic components are manufactured. Our new testing and optimization procedures demonstrate clearly that manufactures can adopt RoHS and still provide their customers with the highest standards for product reliability. We invite all air purifier manufacturers to join us in adopting RoHS on a global basis.”
