IQAir North America, Inc. Ships New HealthPro Plus with V5-Cell

IQAir,worldwide leaders in providing customized and localized air cleaning solutions, have successfully widened the performance gap between IQAir advanced air cleaning systems and conventional room air purifiers. Having mastered particulate filtration with its unique HyperHEPA performance, the IQAir HealthPro Plus model now sets a new standard in gas phase filtration with the new V5-Cell Gas and Odor Filter.

Effective immediately, the V5-Cell Gas and Odor Filter replaces the discontinued HiFlowâ„¢ Gas Filter. The V5-Cell Gas and Odor Filter is
available with the IQAir HealthPro Plus and HealthPro Upgrade Kit. Prices for both items and replacement filters will remain the same.

While building on the outstanding airflow characteristics of its HiFlow predecessor, the new V5- Cell Gas and Odor Filter offers highly improved broad-spectrum gas removal.

Combining the airflow advantages of V-shaped media chambers and high performance filtration media with an environmentally friendly corrugated card-board construction, the V5-Cell is the most advanced gas and odor control filter in its class.

The V5-Cell in the HealthPro Plus contains a blend of 5 pounds of broad-spectrum gas and odor control media. The media is composed of equal parts of uniquely-formulated high-performance activated carbon and activated alumina impregnated with potassium permanganate.

Activated carbon removes gaseous molecules by a physical process called adsorption, which physically binds the molecules within its porous carbon structure. Activated carbon is especially suitable to remove compounds with a high molecular weight such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), for example benzene, toluene and xylene.

Most activated carbon used today (including coconut shell based carbon) is manu-factured for industrial applications. Unlike conventional coconut shell based activated carbon used in many household air cleaners, the uniquely-formulated activated carbon used in the new V5-Cell Gas and Odor Filter provides higher performance for residential and light commercial applications. The uniquely-formulated high-performance activated carbon is activated for a maximum proportion of micropores. It is these optimized micropores that allow for maximum removal activity at the gaseous pollutant levels typically encountered in home, office and light commercial environments.

While conventional air cleaners contain gas control media based on a purely physical filtration process, such as activated carbon and zeolite, the V5-Cell Gas and Odor Filter offers both physical and chemical filter processes. As a result, the HealthPro Plus is able to trap a broader range of gaseous contaminants and odors than conventional room air purifiers.

For control of gaseous contaminants with a low molecular weight, such as formaldehyde and hydrogen sulfide, the V5-Cell Gas and Odor Filter contains a chemically active media (also called chemisorber) made of activated alumina (Al2O3) impregnated with potassium permanganate (KMnO4).This non-toxic media first physically binds selected contaminant molecules and then chemically destroys them through an oxidation process. However, no oxygen or ozone is generated, since the process is media based only.

It is this combination of physical adsorption and chemisorption, which is at the basis of the broad-spectrum gas and odor control capabilities of the new HealthPro Plus. And while the broad-spectrum media is impressive in itself, the way the technology is integrated into a compact, environmentally friendly filter with outstanding airflow characteristics makes it truly unique.

With U.S. and international patents pending, the V5-Cell is based on five inversed V-shaped chambers, which are filled with the gas and odor control media. This design allows for maximum amount of media, long contact time and exceptionally high airflow penetration. In fact, the V5-Cell reduces air delivery by less than 5% compared to the 20-60% airflow reduction of conventional granular carbon filters in room air purifiers.

Special care was taken in the selection of the housing material of V5-Cell. The housing is made from virgin corrugated cardboard. The only binder used in this cardboard is cornstarch. No recycled fibers are utilized to ensure that the cardboard doesn’t offgas. All printing on the cardboard is carried out with water based ink. The V5-Cell contains no metal and can be thrown away or disposed of through incineration.
