Kayla Woodhouse was born in Louisiana and appeared to be a healthy, happy, normal girl. But very soon after she was born, Kayla's parents noticed that on hot days she quickly turned red and even collapsed and passed out cold. Kayla's pediatrician learned that Kayla has a rare genetic disorder that keeps her body from being able to regulate its temperature or feel pain. Temperatures higher than 75 degree could be fatal for her. Worse yet, she also has severe allergies to even the most ordinary household allergens and these allergens would cause her to scratch herself uncontrollably.

To save her life, Kayla's parents moved the entire family to Colorado Springs so that Kayla could live in a cooler environment and be closer to her doctors.
