The Kubena Family

John and Monica Kubena of East Bernard, Texas needed a new home. But what they really needed was for their family to be “home.” The Kubena’s have four children, twin daughters Sara and Tara, age 7, son Brady, 17, and daughter Kelly, 10. For five months the family was separated as Sara and Tara were treated for leukemia at Texas Children’s Hospital. Both girls had weakened immune systems, but Tara had relapsed and needed to be kept in a special sterile isolation environment. She had to wear a special mask that filtered out all viruses and bacteria.
